Position Summary:
AgroPlus is seeking a Senior Sales Agronomist with strong agronomic expertise, proven relationship building skills, and experience supporting growers across southern Alberta. This is a field based, hands on role that combines advanced agronomic knowledge with sales support, customer care, and seasonal operational involvement.
You will work directly with growers, internal team members, and industry partners to provide sound agronomic recommendations, technical product positioning, and strategic guidance that improve farm performance, sustainability, and long term profitability. This role offers the autonomy to make agronomic decisions that are best for the grower, supported by a collaborative team environment.
As a trusted advisor, you will represent AgroPlus with professionalism, sincerity, and a genuine commitment to helping customers succeed. You will also contribute to mentorship, knowledge sharing, and the ongoing development of the agronomy team.
Key Responsibilities:
Grower Relationships and Customer Support
- – Build and maintain strong, trust based relationships with growers, industry representatives, and local partners
- – Work collaboratively with growers to understand their operations, develop individualized cropping plans, and provide ongoing in season follow up
- – Respond promptly to agronomic questions and product inquiries by phone, email, and in person
- – Represent AgroPlus within the community through grower engagement, local events, and professional service
Agronomic Expertise and Recommendations
- – Provide practical, informed agronomic advice related to crop nutrition planning, soil test interpretation, field scouting, diagnostics, and pest identification
- – Develop tailored product recommendations, rates, and application timing based on field conditions and grower goals
- – Apply advanced agronomic knowledge and awareness of emerging trends to address regional challenges, including dryland cropping environments
- – Translate complex agronomic concepts into clear, practical guidance that supports confident decision making
Sales and Market Support
- – Support the positioning of crop nutrition, seed, and crop protection products to strengthen outcomes for growers and the business
- – Participate in grower agronomy meetings, field demonstrations, and customer education events
- – Contribute ideas and input to marketing, advertising, and customer engagement initiatives
Team Collaboration and Mentorship
- – Mentor and support junior agronomists and team members through knowledge sharing and leadership by example
- – Collaborate with internal teams to support agronomy strategy, service consistency, and high quality customer experience
- – Work closely with a supportive team to manage seasonal workload demands
Operational and Field Support
- – Travel regularly within the assigned territory to provide on farm and in field support
- – Assist with product handling, delivery coordination, and seasonal field activities as required
- – Maintain accurate documentation of field visits, customer interactions, and agronomic recommendations
Qualifications and Experience:
- – Degree or diploma in Agronomy, Agriculture, or a related field
- – Eligible for accreditation with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists
- – Professional Agrologist or Certified Crop Advisor designation considered a strong asset
- – Minimum five years of progressive experience in agronomy, ag retail, agricultural sales, or crop consulting
- – Strong understanding of crop production systems relevant to southern Alberta, including dryland environments
- – Experience mentoring others and contributing to team development
- – Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
- – High level of organization, self-motivation, and customer focus
- – Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning new tools
- – Valid Class 5 driver license with the ability to travel throughout the territory
- – Support additional operational and team needs as required, including hands-on field and yard work, product handling and equipment operation, assisting colleagues, and maintaining flexibility for travel, peak-season hours, and occasional overnight stays.
